My vehicle has factory tint on the rear windows, what shade
would match the factory tint?
On most vehicles the factory tint shade is between 15% and 20%. We suggest you take a look at the state laws link we provide to see what is legal in your area on the front side windows to avoid any problems.
|
How hard is it to install precut window tint?
That question really depends on the vehicle and the compound curves of the windows. For most vehicles side windows are not a problem and require little, if any, heat shrinking. Rear windows will require heat shrinking if there is any curve to them at all. Please check out our installation instructions by CLICKING HERE That will give you an idea of the techniques and procedures you will need to do to successfully install your precut tint.
|
How does aftermarket tint look when compared to factory tint?
It depends on the quality of the installation. If the windows are cleaned properly and the film is installed properly it will be very difficult to tell the difference. Contamination, creased film, and the dot matix are the major issues tinters have to deal with. The best way to deal with contamination is to clean everything before installing the film, and work in a dirt free / dust free / wind free enclosure. Handle the film carefully and avoid creases. For the dot matrix, elmer's school glue gel can be used to 'fill in' the air pockets while installing.
|
How do I avoid getting white splotches where the dot matrix is?
Elmer's School Glue Gel. It comes blue, but dries clear. When installing your rear window film, first heat shrink as you normally would to form it, the install it as you normally would EXCEPT don't squeegee hard over the dot matrix pattern. Once the film is in place and the rest of the water is squeegeed out, pull back the film that is over the dot matrix pattern, and put a thin bead of Elmer's School Glue Gel at the bottom of the matrix pattern, then lightly lay the film back down. With your hard card 'push' the glue in an even pattern to the top of the matrix pattern. Be careful when you get to the top of the pattern and the edge of the film, as the glue will make a mess, so have a paper towel handy to catch the access. Don't push too hard and remove all the glue, you want to leave enough under the film to fill in the air pockets between the dots on the matrix pattern.
|
My precut film came with what looks like wrinkles, is this ok?
Wrinkles will come out during the installation process, as long as the film doesn't have a hard crease in it you'll be fine. What's the difference? A hard crease is permanent and will leave a white mark after the film is installed and viewed from the outside, a wrinkle will smooth out.
|
Is precut tint cut to exact size for my windows?
Yes. At first you may think it's cut too large for your windows, but keep in mind that aftermarket window tint also goes behind the weather stripping and gaskets so there are no light leaks and the rear window needs to be heat shrunk to be formed in order fit the curve of the window.
